The history of Tripoli, Libya's capital, stretches 3,000 years to its founding by Phoenicians in 1,000 B.C. Older ruins of Phoenicia, Carthage, Greece and Rome were buried beneath Libya's sands for millennia. Only in the past century have Libya's wondrous mosaics, temples and statues come leaping out of antiquity, bringing lessons from the past into our turbulent present.

LIBYA - MARCH 19-30, 2005

VISION TOURS is a non-profit tour service sponsoring trips to East Africa since 1996.  Vision Tours' founder and tour leader, Dr. John Rude was intrigued when the U.S. State Department recently removed travel restrictions to Libya. A new destination became a distinct possibility.

VISION TOURS spent months compiling information about the wonders of ancient and modern Libya, and contacting Libyan tour agencies.  The country is known only superficially in the U.S., but it has been a favorite destination of Europeans for decades. Like the better-known countries of Ethiopia and Eritrea (VISION TOURS' specialty) we view Libya as a diamond in the rough, waiting to be discovered by intrepid travelers.

Why visit Libya? The answer can only be suggested by clicking on the Libya tab, above.  Our carefully planned itinerary and photos reveal deep connections with ancient Greece and Rome, combined with oases in the desert, colorful Bedouin and Tuareg cultures, friendly modern cities and unspoiled Mediterranean beaches.

How will your life be transformed by visiting Libya? Subscribe to our VISION TOUR taking place in March 2005, and find out for yourself!
